MIXED RESULTS FOR STARS

Thursday, 15 March 2012
Gold Coast Stars began the 2012 season yesterday at Runaway Bay with mixed results.

The Under 19 Youth team turned in a very good performance to defeat the highly fancied Brisbane Strikers side 2-1.

Coach Alain Charles was very pleased with his young charges who have had an injury plagued pre season and the team which took the field was playing their first game together. 'This was a great first up result for us and even though we tired a bit in the second half the boys defended very well as strikers desperately tried to get some points from the game'.

The Senior team unfortunately came up against a highly experienced well credentialled brisbane strikers team and were soundly beaten 9-1.

Coach Paul Edwards said "there is no doubt that the brisbane strikers team is a very good one and whilst i was disappointed with the scoreline i was proud of the way the boys kept on fighting to the end of the match'.

Coach Edwards added "from a players and coaching staff perspective the result was embarrassing but i take some consolation from the fact that this is a very young and inexperienced team with only one player who has played QSL previously, and like our Youth side this was the first game that the team who took the field have played together so we are still sorting out positions and playing style. We have some work to do but the boys and the coaching staff are all keen and confident that we can get the job done".
