ABOUT THE QSL
“The QSL is a state wide, professional football league providing a local pathway from club level to professional football for
Queensland elite male players. The league is acknowledged by players, coaches, referees and the general public as the premier competition in
Queensland and is regarded as a competitive, high quality and fast paced elite football league, growing in popularity and significance each season.”
Following the success of the Queensland Men’s State Cup, Football
Queensland will launch an expansion of the State Cup format in 2008 with the birth of the QSL – Queensland State League.
Held during the regular winter season (March – August) with weekly fixtures, the QSL will build on the success of the State Cup tournament and deliver a fast paced, competitive, professional and exciting brand of football across
Queensland, providing our state’s elite players with the opportunity to compete at a professional level on a weekly basis.
Regional clubs based in Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg,
Sunshine
Coast and the Gold Coast will join two
Brisbane metropolitan clubs to compete in a state wide league which is set to become the pinnacle of our sport, and the highest level of football outside the national A-League competition. The QSL does not involve existing clubs or state representative teams.
The QSL is a truly state wide league, the only one if it’s kind in
Australia and is stage upon which to showcase the state’s elite talent, a clear and local pathway from club football to the national ranks and a vehicle upon which to bring the sport of football even further into the media spotlight.
The QSL has been designed to ‘fill the gap’ between existing club level football and the A-League, and thus will not be played in opposition to either level of the game.
Aligning with the Football Federation Australia National Development Plan, this new brand of football is set to bring
Queensland to the forefront of our sport from 2008. As we advance with the momentum of the world game in what is fast becoming
Australia’s football state, the QSL is now “your state of play”.
Representing the pinnacle of our game in
Queensland, the QSL is positioned as the ‘stepping stone’ between club football and the national A-League competition.
A team effort approach will see the QSL and its ten professional clubs across
Queensland take our standard of play to new heights and create a clear and local pathway for elite players to progress to selection at national level.
Our Goals
1. To represent the pinnacle of football in
Queensland.
2. To provide a clear local pathway from club level to national level football for
Queensland's elite male players.
3. To bring the standard and image of football in
Queensland to a level above that of all other codes statewide.
4. To create a vehicle upon which to take football into the media spotlight statewide.
5. To attract new supporters and long term corporate partners to football at all levels across
Queensland.
Football’s profile has never been higher in
Queensland, and with this growing momentum comes enormous opportunity as we prepare to take our game to new heights.
